TypeSteel - Indoor
Year Built1983
at Alton1983 to 2005

A large tent in Alton Towers’ X-Sector (formerly Fantasy World) housed Black Hole, a large indoor coaster that took place in almost complete darkness, illuminated only by a few stars and asteroid rocks. The coaster started up a spiralling lift hill, before plunging down a series of drops and tight helixes, finally reaching a rather harsh set of brakes at the end of the ride. Black Hole suffered from relatively poor throughput, particularly with the increased popularity of the Towers. Rumours said it was to close at the end of the 2005 season, but following Health & Safety requesting a new prohibitively expensive evacuation walkway, it was shut eight months early after a farewell event before the beginning of the new season.
